Thirty Nine Receives Negative Comments From Netizens

 If you are watching the friendship drama Thirty Nine, you know that one of the issues being depicted in the show is extra-marital affairs.

There is now a current controversy with regards to the plot of the drama, especially on its latest episode. As viewers are criticizing the writer for glamorizing adultery, as in the case of Chan Young and Jin Seok.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Chan Young and Jin Seok has had feelings for each other for a long time. But unknown circumstances made it impossible for the two to be together, Jinseok left for the United States without her and there he met his current wife Kang Sung Joo after she got pregnant. 
Jin Seok has left his home after asking for a divorce, he also knows that their supposed son is not his biological son. He went to see Chan Young and with her friends and mother, was about to eat dinner. Sun Joo came to Chan Young's house to find her husband but Mijo stops her.

This is the scene viewers find most problematic. 

Mijo even begs Sun Joo to leave so she does not ruin the happiness her friend is feeling at that moment. She passed out on the street, with no shoes on and just wearing her socks. Yes, her friendship with Chanyoung is stronger than her conviction. Yes, Jin Seok and Sun Joo have issues that needed to be resolved. But this is still romanticizing adultery according to viewers, as this entails those watching to feel pity for both Jinseok and Chanyoung who are not supposed to be together.

  • Well, I’m questioning the scriptwriter’s thinking!”
  • It’s a drama I’m looking forward to but all the characters make me unhappy so I won’t watch it. It makes me wonder if the writer herself is having an affair? 
  • That’s crazy!
  • Really if I were her friend, I’d let her get caught by her hair to wake her up!
  • I didn’t like the setting and the script but the actors acted so well that it was a pity.

    Can't you people understand Mijo's reason for doing that, Chan-Young is dying she just wanted to make her bestfriend to be happy in her last days. And for the record Mijo's against that relationship in the previous episode when she doesn't know yet Chan-Young condition. (I think this people doesn't know the word love)

      I agree. Mijo even regrets the moment the two met. She blames herself for their affair but no matter how many times Mijo tells Chan-Young to stop the affair at the end of the day it is still Chan-Young who will decide for herself. Now that she's sick, Mijo vowed to make Chan-Young's remaining days be the happiest she's been. She's not gonna live that long so let her have it. :)

      It seems that some individuals are so narrow. Doesn't they get the message of the story? I don't see any glamourizing of extra marital affairs here. That's why there's a word CONVICTION. The story is very reflective for me. It is all about the beauty of true friendship, which made me reflect who they are in my life. Congratulations to all casts of Thirty Nine. You are all good actors. Miss Son Ye Jin.... you are amazing. It takes a lot of energy, to be a little bit funny, to laugh, to be angry, to feel fear and sorrow and cry, in one episode, yet, you did it all realistically with flying colors.
