Lee Joon Gi Talks About Scarlet Heart Ryeo Season 2 and Unreleased Ending

Lee Joon Gi recently had an interview for MMTG and he mentioned his 2016 drama Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

The drama, with a star-studded cast including IU, Kang Ha Neul, Nam Joo Hyuk, Jisoo, EXO‘s Baekhyun, made fans nostalgic.

We all know how the story evolved, how a modern woman went back in time where she met a family of princes, and eventually fell in love with Wang So.

Lee Joon Gi commented,

I received good energy from the cast. Even now, little kids who ask for my autograph don’t know my other projects and only know ‘Scarlet Heart: Goryeo.

Host Jae Jae mentioned about a second season and the actor said,

I also hope for season two. We talked a lot about that.

The unreleased ending of the drama was also mentioned in the interview. We would have loved to be able to see a happy ending.

We filmed the scene where Wang So and Hae Soo meet again. He approaches her in a suit as a stranger and hands her a handkerchief. When she looks at him, he stands there like someone who doesn’t know anything about what happened in Goryeo.

I think he gazed at her with a grin. I believe the director was in a dilemma until the very end. Should we go for an ending that’s deeper and painful, or should we go for an ending that gives a feeling of hope? No matter what he chose, I think there would’ve been regrets. I think that he thought it would be good if it left a more poignant impression. Honestly, I thought it would’ve been included in the DVD, but it was blocked.

He then jokingly said that he likes it when his fans are sad so he won't show it to them.
