Kim Tae Ri Asks Fans to Translate Her Vlogs for Free and They are Not Happy

 theqoo pann

Recently, actress Kim Tae Ri received criticism for asking her fans to translate her vlogs for free.

The Twenty Five Twenty One actress is under fire for publicly recruiting translators to translate her Youtube videos for free, or as she calls it, “talent donation.” Instead of paying them, she offered to put their social media handles at the end of the video.
Hello everyone! After a year of waiting, the ENglish subtitles are finally ready for episode 3. I'm really grateful for all the pateince and I'm doing my best to finish episode 4 next month.
And I have another announcement for you all today! Looking at the comments, I realized that the vlog has viewers in lots of countries around the world. And I started thinking how good it would be to have more languages. As many as possible. But the question was how.. And then I had an idea.
There have to be talented fans out there who are frustrated at my subtitling speed and have thought to themselves " It would be quicker just to translate it myself!
So I hereby introduce... (drumroll please) the <So This Translation is the Place?> project.
And this is how its going to work. If you're interested in helping out voluntarily with translation for your language, please fill out this form to get in touch: taeriblesubtitles.com.
You can work from either the English or the original Korean. ANd we can include your email or socials at the end of your subtitles if you'd like.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from some of you!

The google forms look like these:

Upon hearing about this, fans commented negatively.

1. She made her debut in Park Chan-wook's movie when she was a nobody and have been walking on solid ground ever since. She must have gotten the celebrity disease... Everyone around her seems to be her handmaiden.

2. I'll agree with this if she also goes into her acting projects without getting paid

3. Seriously a f*cking turn off ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

4. Then you go into acting without getting paid tooㅋ

5. She's calling this a "talent donation"

I'm laughing because this is so ridiculousㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

7. Every time I forget about her existence, she would always do something like this to remind me of her.... why?... donating your talents to a celebrity?? Then you should act for free and donate all your YT revenue. Don't tell people about your Insta ID either

8. Celebrities make a lot of money, and get a lot of sponsorships, but they don't really want to spend their own money... Or the company doesn't want to pay them that much?

9. She said "Talent donation" ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

10. Is she alone in her company..? Why are they doing work like that?

Some fans thought this was for official videos since she called it a "talent donation" but it turned out that it was just for her vlog. Again, people are not happy.
1. I thought that it was for some noble cause and clicked in to praise her but this is shocking....

2. The way she's doing that through Google Forms is also so messy

3. I'm more shocked that it takes 4-6 hours to do this

4. Looking at her projects recently, she's been filming a lot of CFs and must've been earning a lot. She really seems brainless

5. For a 30-40 min video, it takes around 4-6 hours? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ if you were to use Papago to translate everything, it would take even more time ㅡㅡ

6. Why isn't her company the one looking for applicants? Isn't her company the one doing this....?

7. ? So those aren't even her official videos so what is this?

8. Then she should be gifting her talent in acting for free, too ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

9. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ the form almost sounds like a job application

After receiving backlash, the actress deleted the post on her Instagram but that did not make any difference at all.

1. Does she think that it's over because she deleted it?

2. Turn off

3. I'm so disappointed

4. Does she think that the scandal is gone because she deleted it?

5. If she was a top idol, she would already be getting tons of comments and posting an official apology...

6. She's over 30 y.o but because people around her all baby her so much, she probably doesn't even know what wrong she did

7. She's trying so hard to act woke.....

8. The style of person that turns you off the more you know about them

9. Her brain is empty

10. Talent donation is just crazy......

Any thoughts?

UPDATE:

Kim Tae Ri's management issued a statement regarding the controversy.
This is Management MMM.

This is our official position regarding the subtitle translation of 'Is That The Place'.

None of the 'Is That The Place' videos are monetized in any way, including advertisements, and we do not equate anyone's enjoyment with monetization. From the time actress Kim Taeri decided to start 'Is That The Place' to the moment we added the current English subtitles, we have only had one thing in mind: our fans.

When we asked for help translating the subtitles into various languages, we did so with the sole intention of allowing more overseas fans to enjoy the videos. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused to many people due to our inadequate planning.

We also want to assure you that we never wanted anyone's feelings to be misused during the entire process of 'Is That The Place', and if there was any part of the video that should have been paid, it was paid fairly.
Again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you.
