Arabs and King the Land Viewers Offended by the Drama's Representation of the Arabs, Demand Apology

In a recent article by Soompi, it was reported that the production of King The Land has issued a short statement regarding the recent controversy regarding the portrayal of an Arab Prince in episodes 7 and 8 of the hit drama. 
The characters, regions, place names, etc. appearing in the drama are fictitious settings, and there was no intention to satirize or distort a specific culture. The production team respects various cultures and will pay more attention to production so that there is no discomfort in viewing.

King The Land is embroiled in controversy with their recent depiction of an Arab Prince. 

In the 7th episode, a new character, Prince Samir, portrayed by Anupam Tripathi, an Arab Prince, was introduced.

Although many fans were joyful with the comedy the Squid Game alum brought to the hot drama, many fans were angry at how he was depicted. 

From the start when Gu Won called him to persuade him to stay at King Hotel, he was seen in a bar surrounded by women.
Many find this representation insulting to Arabs. 

First off, an Indian national portrayed the Arab prince.  And then he was portrayed in a disrespectful way, him being in a bar with women touching him and being obsessed with women. 

 Fans expressed their delight in watching the K-Drama and, yet, they were offended by JTBC's intention to promote "stereotypes" and offensive portrayals in the recent episodes.

Even the recent post on Netflix Korea's Instagram has angry comments from viewers.  


Numerous netizens are demanding the removal of the scene and an apology from JTBC, but the company has not yet addressed the criticism.

Recently Iranian viewers called out another KDrama, See You in My 19th Life, for distortion of their history.
