My Demon, My Angel - A Review

My Demon had its final episode last night, and it was a wonderful showcase of how good and evil works in this world. And how love can make you good and how it can do the opposite.

Guwon may have been the Demon. He grants wishes, for a price - after 10 years, you go to hell. It was said in the drama how it was God who created him. But is he really a Demon?

I don't think so. I think he really is an angel.

He saved Jin Gayoung as a child.

It may be accidental but he took her under his wings, made her his human companion. And she thrived, so much different from what she could've been if she grew up with her abusive father.

He made good men out of thugs.

Who would have thought, these loan sharks can still be good people. After teaching them a lesson, and seeing how he could actually lead them, they saw him as their boss. In the end, he made them stop their work in the underworld and do something good. And they did. They opened a legit restaurant.

He saved Dohee twice.

It was accidental again. He did not know that it was someone he'll fall in love with when he granted the wish of Dohee's father. It may be because it was his duty as a demon, but he chose her father to make a deal with. Thus, saving Dohee from the womb.
The second time, it was a choice he made because of love. Sacrificing himself, knowing he cannot break the rule if he doesn't want to die, but he still did. And he saved Dohee again.

What happened to Noh Dogyeong was a classic example of how evil destroys you. His father was abusive, he would do anything, even hurt and sacrifice his own son to get what he wants. But that's his way, thinking this is for the good of his son.

But it can also be because of how he was brought up by Ju Cheon Seok. She was in a way, doing evil things before she met Guwon. But that experience made her turn away from her evil deeds knowing how she was like the demon herself before.

These events will make you think how good and evil works. Good produces good, even if you think you are evil. And evil produces evil, even if you think you're doing it for the greater good.

My Demon was a wonderful drama, not only because of the chemistry between Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung, but because of all the characters who gave meaning to their world. Every little sacrifice, every little deed, contribute to what they have become.

A definite must watch.
