Squid Game Being Accused of Plagiarism
On September 17, Netflix released the survival drama, Squid Game. It has already broken the Korean Drama record on Netflix, 3 days after its release. However, it has been hit with plagiarism allegations lately. Particularly, its similarity to the Japanese movie, As The Gods Will.
There have been numerous survival death match themed movies and series before, but there are other similarities aside from the plot as pointed out by viewers.
Starting from the first episode when the contestants were brought out to play "Red Light, Green Light" where a giant doll shoots anyone caught moving. The same way in the movie All The God's Will, where any student caught moving were also killed.

But in response to this, the series director explained that he has completed the script way back in 2009. He said,
While we were filming, I heard that it was similar to 'As the Gods Will.' But the first game was the 'Mugunhwa Has Bloomed' game since I wrote the script in 2009. That is the only coincidental similarity and has nothing in relation to that film. I did not copy anyone. I actually would be the first since I wrote it first.
