JTBC Back in SLump After Thirty Nine and Forecasting Love and Weather
Son Ye Jin and Park Min Young did it with their recently-concluded dramas Thirty Nine and Forecasting Love and Weather, but it seems that JTBC has stepped into stupor once again.
JTBC dramas have been suffering from low ratings since last year with the drama Undecrover. Ever since June, the network has not experienced ratings more than 5% according to Nielsen Korea. Idol and The One and Only even reached less than 1%. It was said that this was because of the very slow pacing and development of the stories. Even if the dramas have good reviews like Lost and Reflection of You, the heavy material and slow development, most viewers don't tune in. Unlike Itaewon Class and The World of the Married where viewers were happy because of good storyline and directing.
Park Min Myoung and Son Ye Jin broke this slump. Forecasting Love and Weather recorded a highest viewership rating of 7.8% and maintained a 7% average throughout the series. While Thirty Nine garnered a high of 8.1% average nationwide rating.
Naturally, expectations are high for succeeding dramas. Green Mother's Club emphasizes on friendship while My Liberation Notes is highly expected since its a new work by My Mister and Another Oh Hae Young, Park Hae Young.
But both dramas are not living up to expectations. The Wednesday-Thursday drama started off with 2.5%, went uo to 3% for the second episode but went down to 2.5% again. On the other hand, My Liberation Notes started off with 2.9% which slightly rose to 3% for the second episode. Why? Viewers were saying its because of the slow development and heavy theme of the drama.
Here's hoping that this JTBC slump stops and new drama opportunities will happen soon.
