K-Pop Superstars BTS, Headed to the White House
White House announced that Korean KPop group BTS is set to meet President Joe Biden on Tuesday. The visit aims to discuss Asian inclusion and representation and to address anti-Asian hate crimes and disinformation.
The group had their own experience with discrimination, and they shared this last year as anti-Asian hate crimes in the US have increased. This includes shootings at three Atlanta area spas.
We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English.
We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason.

Biden "has previously spoken about his commitment to combating the surge of anti-Asian hate crimes, the White House noted in Thursday's announcement. The White House also added that BTS and Biden will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS' platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world.
