Alchemy of Souls, Accused of Plagiarism

After just 2 episodes, Alchemy of Souls have been accused of copying scenes from the Chinese drama "Ever Night".

After the airing of the tvN drama's first 2 episodes, there were suspicions that some of the character settings from the Hong Sisters drama and Ever Night are very similar.

One netizen pointed this out, saying that the relationship between the male and female lead were both "master and servant" in both dramas. In addition,

The female protagonist is actually the daughter of the Ming Dynasty and a fairy, so she later appears as a different person. The male protagonist also fights with the enemy who killed his parents.

At first, the male protagonist’s spirit was blocked, so he was unable to perform, and there is a place called Seowon that fosters the trainees, and those details are similar in both dramas.

There were also saying that the fight scene on ice between Naksu (Ko Yoon Jung) and Park Jin (Yoo Joon Sang) is similar to the chinese drama. In Alchemy of Souls, the two were fighting with a bow and a knife. Whereas in Ever Night, the characters were also using bows on the ice lake to fight.

Some netizens agree saying that the character settings and the atmosphere of the scene are all similar. But others are saying that the plagiarism suspicion regarding the duel scene seems a little far-fetched. Another commented, The Hong sisters have a history, so I’m more suspicious.

Meanwhile, the Hong Sisters have been in multiple plagiarism accusations including Hwayugi, The Master's Sun, Hotel del Luna and The Greatest Love.
