Revenge is Sweet in The Glory - A Review

The much anticipated second part of The Glory is what I expected it to be.

The depth of rage the viewers felt during the 8 episodes escalated so fast you feel yourself anxious on what would happen next. The path for revenge took Dong Eun 18 years to unravel, with the help of allies who needed revenge themselves.

The tension, every little action causes the characters and the audience to feel so much tension you begin to panic. Every single plan goes on without a hitch, and Dong Eun knows them so well, she did not even have to get blood on her hands. It was the bullies themselves who turned on each other and did all the revenge she had planned from the start.

And every bully got what they deserve. Jae Jun and Myeong O are both deceased. Sa Ra's reputation is tarnished. Hye Jeong is mute, Yeon Jin and her mother are in prison, Dong Eun's mother is in a mental institution, and Hyeon Nam's husband has passed away as well.

So was it in her plan to get violent and execute the revenge herself? As I mentioned, she did not have to get her hands dirty. It is the bullies who dug their own graves. Turning on each other, using each other's weaknesses to bring them down. And that's what's satisfying.

The Glory is not just about revenge and bullying. It's about how bringing up a child affects how they will turn out. It's about how fear makes you do something you don't want to. It's about how you see yourself and how you stand up for yourself. It's also about how to stand up and rebuild yourself. How trauma can affect you and how resilient you can be in spite of it. It's how important it is to allow yourself to get angry and eventually allowing yourself to heal.

In no way did we see Dong Eun's revenge as wrong. In fact, we see it as right, justifiable and we need her to succeed. We want her to make sure Yeon Jin and her friends get what they deserve. Their abuses, even in the present is brutal and we hope the consequences of their actions will catch up to them.

And it did.

Revenge is indeed sweet.

The Glory is the perfect revenge drama.
