Doctor Cha's Kim Byung Chul Finally Gets More Spotlight as He Truly Deserves
Kim Byung Chul has been in the industry since 2003, but it is only now has he experienced this much love from viewers.
Doctor Cha has been having a great run, with high ratings that made it enter the top 10 highest-rated cable dramas of all time.
And with that popularity, it follows that the main leads will receive love from viewers as well. That includes Kim Byung Chul, the husband who had a secret love child with the woman he has an affair with. Despite the character, Kim's great acting made viewers fall in love with him - he's funny, quirky, and comedic. And fans love his unconventionally loveable ways.
Kim Byung Chul has had many hit dramas under his belt, but mostly as a supporting actor. He was in Goblin, SKY Castle, and also Descendants of the Sun, and Mr. Sunshine, but before these hits, he was just the "support" for 18 years. And he's mostly remembered for the villainous roles he has portrayed. But he was already giving memorable performances.
His first major character in a drama was through Doctor Prisoner, 16 years after his debut in 2003 in the film Once Upon a Battlefield. Although he has appeared as lead in SKY Castle, he was sharing the spotlight with so many actors and actresses there.
He is no heartthrob, and definitely not your conventional good-looking actor. But even if he has appeared in these various hits before Doctor Cha, he's only been really being noticed now with this drama. Not that he was not noticed before, but here, he is THE leading man.
After Doctor Cha, here's hoping that Kim Byung Chul will get more leading man roles, for clearly, he can play a good one.
