Dispatch Says Lee Sun Kyun was Used by Police and Media to Divert Citizen Attention

 Dispatch says law enforcement failed to fulfill its duties with regards to the case of Lee Sun Kyun.

The police maintains its statement that there were no issues on the investigation process. But Dispatch disagrees. They claim that the process was flawed from the start.

According to Dispatch, in October this year, while investigating an illegal drug case out of an adult entertainment establishment always visited by social elites in Gangnam, the Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Incheon Metropolitan Police came across a name of a famous celebrity. 

Based on the information from a certain "Kim", who is a manager of an entertainment establishment, the Incheon Police wrote this report on October 18-

On several occasions in 2023, Lee Sun Gyun administered illegal drugs including marijuana at the home of 'Kim' in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.

Seven individuals including 'Kim' administered the illegal drug philopon at an Gangnam establishment on June 20, 2023 at around 17 o'clock.

1st media reports came out only a day after the police finished writing their report. On October 19, Gyeonggi Shinmun published an exclusive report with the headline, "Top star 'L' internally investigated for illegal drugs."   

As per Dispatch, Lee Sun Kyun became the sacrificial lamb for 'Kim', who needed to "sell someone out" in order to obtain leniency, and the Incheon police, who needed a good performance  for the higher-ups. 

Also, according to the police report shown above, 'Kim's records show six previous convictions related to illegal drug usage.  'Kim' was prison bound for sure. But after blackmailing Lee Sun Kyun and receiving 300 million KRW (~ $230,000 USD), 'Kim' gave Lee Sun Kyun's name to the police as her "contribution" to the ongoing investigation. 

On November 24, Lee's 2nd drug test came out negative. Later that night, KBS News got an exclusive recording of a phone call between Lee Sun Kyun and 'Kim', diverting attention from the negative drug test results.

After a month, JTBC issued the following statement obtained from the police.

Lee Sun Kyun claimed that he administered a substance by sniffing it with a straw, but he was led to believe that it was sleep medication.

This information has been passed out to various media outlets the same time the actor was asked to take a lie detector test, to verify the information given by Kim.

When 'Kim' had been searching for ways to "sell someone out", the Incheon police need to report proof of "performance" to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, which is supporting a nationwide campaign known as the "War against Drugs". With this, the Incheon police connived with the press to divert national attention to a progressing, high profile illegal drug case. In particular, when Lee Sun Kyun's drug tests repeatedly returned "negative", the Incheon police resorted to leaking details about Lee Sun Kyun's private life to the media to save themselves.
