Fans Praise Park Bo Gum for Choosing a Women-Centric Drama for His Comeback Role

 The first 4 episodes of When Life Gives You Tangerines were recently released by Netflix, and fans have nothing but praise for its male lead, Park Bo Gum.

The actor took the role of Yang Gwansik, who dearly loves Oh Aesun, another Jeju native who wanted to be a poet. This drama mainly focuses on women's experiences and challenges. And fans appreciate how his character in the drama challenges traditional norms.

When Life Gives You Tangerines is set in Jeju Island in the 1950s. It tells the harsh realities of living as a woman during those times which is majorly patriarchal. Gwansik, the quiet and diligent man, help's Aesun pursue her dreams despite the pressure set by society.

Fans are applauding his character which promotes positive musculinity in KDramas.

Here are some comments:

Gwansik will now be a standard for portraying positive musculinity in KDramas. And #ParkBoGum was so right to portray him.

 I'll just say one thing. I chose well on whom to be a fan of. The only one I've ever been a fan of.

@BOGUMMY you're everything!

iizallyn states,

Park Bogum is very convincing in his role because that’s how he is he’s very gentle and caring towards women. Especially now that most what we see in entertainment news in Kpop is old ass Korean men oppressing young female artists.

iubogum says,

 this is so true, actors’ drama comeback after military tends to be male centric esp action dramas such as dots, vagabond etc to probably align w their post-military image but bogum chose a slice of life drama & a women centric drama at that!

Viewers also praised the actor for using his influence to tell a story that highlights women's strenght.

According to stellaralphaz

 Park Bogum has always chosen roles in series where the plot always revolves around the female protagonist. He let’s his healthy masculinity prioritize and promote women. And that’s what REAL MAN truly means.

Another fan, colelvx, commented,

glylovesbogum also says,

 This is true, because #ParkBoGum is an actor who loves equality, liberation of women, and his masculinity defines how he respects plot / drama that will empower women. Hooray to Bogum!
