Real Life Squid Game Played in Abu Dhabi
Squid Game has taken the world by storm. It topped Netflix's most watched lists globally, in over 80 countries. This week, a selected group of people will try their luck at the Korean games played in the drama. but without the deadly punishment.
Last Tuesday, October 12, two groups of pre-selected participants took to the Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi and played the games. They even wore uniforms featuring the Squid Game logo, with staff wearing circle, triangle and square costumes.
The Korean Cultural Center said that they would like the people in the UAE to learn more about Korean culture by participating in the event.
The games played in the event are: green light, red light, glass stepping stones, dalgona, marbles and ddakji. In the series, all eliminated players die when they fail to finish the game. But in this event, KCC said that eliminated players can participate and watch the game separately without returning home.
The breakdown of the games in the KCC's AUE event were as follows:
Green Light, Red Light
In Korea, instead of green light, red light, Koreans say "the roses of sharon have blossomed". The person whose movement is detected will be eliminated. KCC will use sponge guns in the game.
Glass stepping stones
KCC did the stepping stones on the floor, but it will run exactly the same as the Squid Game series.
Dalgona Game
This is usually played after school by school children. They gather together with friends and take out shapes as marked. If they get the shape without breaking, they get one for free.
Marbles
KCC will just do the even or odd game with the marbles.
Ddakji
Similar to the series, the player who flips over the other's paper ddakji will win.
