Ryu Jun Yeol Could Have Played a Different Character in Reply 1988
Ryu Jun Yeol left a lasting impact as "Reply 1988's" second male lead, Jung Hwan, but it turns out he also tried out for a different part.
The third part of the well-known K-drama series "Reply," "Reply 1988," has a very stringent audition process, yet there are still some humorous moments. Ryu Jun Yeol worked very hard to prepare for one particular role before being cast in a completely different one and going on to achieve great success.
In instance, Ryu Jun Yeol revealed on the chat show "Taxi" that although he had prepared for a variety of characters in "Reply 1988," he had given Dong Ryong his undivided attention. The actor claims that in order to deliver the most believable impression, he even learnt to dance.
I thought I’d be casted as Dong Ryong, but at the end of my audition, director Shin Won Ho suddenly asked if I could play Go. After responding positively to the question, I thought he’d consider me to play Choi Taek”
However, as we all know, Ryu Jun Yeol was cast as Jung Hwan, a character who appears frigid but is incredibly kind on the inside and who has a requited love for Duk Sun, the female lead.
Ryu Jun Yeol ended up winning the hearts of many viewers with his regretful yet swooning character in "Reply 1988," despite not getting the role he wanted. After his popular K-drama, the actor practically shot to fame, landing a number of prominent roles on both the big and small screens, with his most recent project being the eagerly awaited film "Alienoid."
Dramas and Movies to look forward to this August 2022
The good news is, he got the girl in real life as he is in a relationship with Hyeri, the female lead in Reply 1988 since August 2017.
