Lovely Runner is Such a Lovely Series for Overthinking and Theories - A Review

 It's only two episodes in, but Lovely Runner is giving me the feels. Aside from Queen of Tears, it's my current favorite drama.

Lovely Runner was unexpectedly good. I thought it was just the usual timeslip drama, but there was more to it than that.

Sunjae and Sol's relationship was so different before the timeslip and after. After the second episode, I needed to rewatch the first episode just to understand some elements in the story, specifically Sunjae's behavior, and how he was towards Sol. 

Sol's accident, how it was Sunjae who she was able to talk to in that radio show, and her sudden love for him as an idol are all intertwined, not an accident and may be just part of a plan with a wider sense. 

The ending for this week was so wonderful and unexpected, it just makes you smile. That surprise was cherry on top for this week's episode. And you think, what would happen next for these two? How did they end up here? How will they end after the timeslip? 

 
And with that, comes the overthinking and the theories while watching the show. I have so much in mind, but I came across @hellobungz on Twitter, and her theories are spot-on.

Juyang Reservoir Murder Case

First off, the post mentioned how the drama is not just a simple timeslip series, but has a thriller aspect to it. As Tae Sung's father, Detective Kim was in charge of investigating the Juyang Reservoir Murder Case.
Turns out, that Im Sol was actually involved in the said case. She met the killer who drives a taxi, In the teaser and in episode 2, it's the same taxi chasing and was about to hit her. 



So, Sol was kidnapped by the killer and brought to the Juyang Reservoir. She managed to escape but was being chased down by the killer. It was Sunjae who managed to save her. Now in this timeline (before the timeslip), Sol did not know Sunjae yet, but Sunjae already knows her. Well, we saw in episode 2 because, apparently he likes her.

Sol's Accident

Do you remember in one of the scenes in episode 1, Sol's mother was shown with a burn scar on her hand. And as the OP said, in the BTS for episodes 1-2, it was mentioned that Sol had a fire accident. So is this the accident that caused her paralysis? Or another accident altogether?

Candies

In the 1st episode, on the bridge, Sol gave Sunjae a jar of candies saying that he loves these kind. But I guess he loves them because it was Sol who gave them to him in the first place. The first time they met (before the timeslip).

Radio call

I think this was not a random call. I really think Sunjae purposely called Sol to check on her. And his words for Sol that time was based on the first time they met, that rainy day when he first saw her. 
"Then, as you wait until the rain stops, live another day"
It was his way of sending his love for her, even without her realizing it.

About Sol's accident

OP shared a photo before and after the timeslip. Where Sunjae was always there to save Sol. But after the timeslip, it seems that Sol was stronger and may even remember the accident. But see, Sunjae is still there waiting to save her.

The present Sunjae still remembers Sol

In the teaser, there is a scene where Sunjae follows Sol to her apartment. With him saying, "so, you don't remember it".
With this, it can be inferred that Sol has no memory of anything before the accident.

Eclipse and Sol

Im Sol may be the reason Sunjae became part of Eclipse. Even their debut song, Sudden Shower, was based on her and their first meeting.

Sunjae's sudden death

It may not be the original speculation on why Sunjae died, not because he took his own life and not about overdose. In this scene, the door bell rang. Someone came into his room. And it could be that person who caused him his death.
 

Sol and Sunjae are together

At the end of episode 2, after the timeslip, a photo of Sunjae and Sol together suddenly appeared. But Sunjae's death hasn't happened yet. So why would you choose to take your own life if you are with the person you love? It just makes sense that it was someone else who offed him. Can it still be that that person is still connected to the Juyang Reservoir Murder Case? So even in the present time, they are still being haunted by that case?

 The production team of ''When the Phone Rings' has apologized for a sign language scene from the first episode. In the first episode, aired on November 22, sign language interpreter Hong Hee Joo (played by Chae Soo Bin) is interpreting for a news program. Because of a transmission error during the live broadcast, the program suddenly freezes on Hong Hee Joo signing the word for โ€œmountain,โ€ but was mistakenly interpreted as an obscene hand gesture.
